Winter Wedding at Vue in Columbus, Oh
Jamie + Jeff
I still can't believe our luck the day of Jamie and Jeff's wedding at Vue Columbus! There was a 100% chance of rain all day long and when I opened my curtains that morning is was POURING. However, when it was time to actually get outside for their first look and wedding party photos the rain eased up and these two braved the wet and cold to capture some truly gorgeous portraits! I brought my big stack of clear umbrellas, which is something I always have on hand to keep the wedding party dry, but I was thrilled that we didn’t end up needing them!
I arrived at the Westin Great Southern Columbus that morning to a room full of relaxed women enjoying some champagne. All the pretty details were gathered and I was able to get right to work. I loved the modern feel of their invitations and incorporated The Lesser Bear ebony ribbon to accent the black detailing. Jamie’s sisters and mom helped her slip into her gown and she was instantly glowing. I’m certain the dress was made for her— the lines and shape were absolutely stunning.
While the ladies were sipping champagne I arrived to find the men with a bottle of Maker’s Mark and having a great time laughing together! Jeff shared a really sweet moment with his parents as his dad helped straighten his tie and his mom helped secure his suspenders.
With the rain still drizzling down we opted to do the first look under an awning in downtown Columbus that offered the perfect cover from the rain, but also allowed for beautiful light to pour through the glass ceiling and created a great geometric backdrop of windows that fit the modern vibe of their wedding!
Jamie and Jeff exchanged hand written letters during their private first look and read them while standing back to back. I always love seeing how couples decide to personalize this moment. I think this was such a great way to really build up the anticipation to the reveal as they had to pause and take a breath while they read.
As I’ve explained before, I truly do think a first look is such an awesome way to slow down your day and allows you to spend more time with the person you love most! Jamie and Jeff were able to have such a relaxed day because it was important to them to maximize their time together, their wedding party, and guests. After we were done with portraits outside the Westin Great Southern Columbus we then jumped on the trolley and headed over to Little Palace Restaurant where Jamie and Jeff had their very first date. They grabbed drinks at the bar with their wedding party and then were able to sneak over to "their table" and enjoyed a cocktail together. (For more about their love story and how they met click HERE!)
We then headed over to Vue in the Brewery District and of course had to snap some photos in the green room, which is this really great white space flooded with light and awesome plants. As a slightly obsessive plant lady who lives in an all white house it pretty much is my happy place! Haha!
The ceremony was held at Vue with a beautiful handcrafted wood structure created by Jamie’s grandfather Richard as the focal point. Her grandfather not only helped with the decorations, but also proceeded to assist in marrying his granddaughter! It was so special to see him officiating the ceremony and offering marriage advice to Jamie and Jeff.
Following the ceremony and family formals, Jamie and Jeff were able to join their guests for cocktail hour while the room was flipped into a beautiful reception space! The centerpieces mimicked the ceremony structure with wood hexagons decorated with beautiful soft blooms.
After a delicious dinner, first dances, and cake cutting the dance floor opened up and was quickly filled with everyone having a great time! As it turns out, Jeff has some killer dance moves and was at the center of the floor for most of the night with his bride!
I can’t tell you enough how wonderful both Jamie and Jeff are. They welcomed me into their group of friends without hesitation and went above and beyond in making sure I had everything I needed on their wedding day! They are such sweet and thoughtful people and their huge group of friends and family are a testament to that. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a small part of your big day!!
