Fall Engagement Photos in Columbus, Ohio
Chelsea + JT
Perfectly styled outfits, an adorable pandemic puppy, plenty of snuggles and a champaign toast— what more could you ask for in a fall engagement session in Columbus, Ohio? To top it off, we had the most gorgeous golden sunset! Chelsea and JT put so much thought into every detail of their session and it truly made for such stunning images. They are such a sweet couple and after having to postpone their 2020 wedding I know we are all beyond excited to celebrate their marriage in 2021 at Le Méridien, The Joseph.
I first met this amazing couple over coffee at Fox in the Snow and could instantly see how genuine their love and admiration for one another is. They are such a joy to be around and have the cutest story about how they met— it really would make for the perfect meet cute scene in a love film. Read Chelsea’s account of the tale below to see if you agree!
Love at First Sight? - By Chelsea
It was the first semester of our Freshmen Year of College. Being business students, we had to take a 5 credit hour Calculus course, which involved 5 Monday Night Exams at 8 PM (Yuck!). I think it was our second exam when I entered the Math Life Science Building and saw a group of guys from my class standing across the hall. The hallway was crowed with 100+ students so I couldn’t walk over to them. I ended up winking at them to be funny and then noticed a very tan, good-looking guy next to them who started winking back. I was caught off guard and did not know what to do. I waited until the crowd in the hallway started to shift and wiggled my way through. I then marched up to this boy and asked him why he was winking at me. He responded by asking why I was winking at those guys. I answered, “because I know them” with a little funny attitude in my voice. He said, "Oh well, I'm Jesus. Nice to meet you" and stuck out his hand. I couldn't help but crack a smile. It was a very funny, flirty moment. I was so nervous for my exam. The last thing I expected was to have this confident man pop-up into my evening. We then all walked into the exam room and took our exams. Spoiler alert - we passed Business Calc!
Their proposal story is equally as special and I adore JT’s perspective of the day!
The Proposal - By JT
Leading up to our five-year anniversary, I spent weeks planning to propose in NYC as we celebrated our anniversary - planning to propose on The High Line, planning where the photographer would be, and planning what I was going to say.
I had been traveling for work for the past few months, and I thought I would be traveling during our actual anniversary, but the Friday before, I found out that I didn’t have to travel so I quickly made dinner reservations at a restaurant on the river that we have walked past dozens of times. I asked the photographer if she could take photos of the proposal on Monday instead of the following weekend, and when she said she could, reality started to set in, and I couldn’t tell if I was more nervous or excited.
As I spent the next few days hanging out with Chelsea, having the ring started to ‘burn a hole in my pocket’ (it was in my sock drawer), and I just wanted to ask her every time I saw her. As we finished our weekly errands on Sunday, I told her that she should go get her nails done so that her nails could match the dress that she was going to wear the next day for our dinner. It seemed pretty obvious to me that it was a clue to what was going to happen, but somehow it was still a surprise the next day.
Monday. Finally, the day that I am going to propose to the most amazing person that has entered my life. We got up and got ready for work. ‘Do I do it now?’ I kept thinking... The dragged on as I grew more and more anxious – I just wanted to ask her already. After a very long day, we are both home from work and she takes some time to relax by the pool, while I’m pacing around the island in our apartment. Eventually, I ran out of things to do, and got bored of walking around the island so I got ready (way to early), putting on my suit, and then starting to pace around again. Chelsea comes in, and after taking FOREVER to get ready, I convinced her that we should leave early because the restaurant might seat us early then we could go hang out with a few friends and watch the rest of the Blue Jackets game.
As we are walking to dinner, I kept feeling the ring box hit my arm and I thought ‘there is no way she can’t tell there is something here’. After crossing to the Scioto Mile to walk along the river, I started to find it hard to keep a conversation because my mind was racing. We kept walking, getting closer to where the photographer was hiding (she was in plain sight pretending to take pictures of the river), and my thoughts started to get faster and faster... ‘what am I going to say?’, ‘what did I practice?’, ‘what if she says no?’.
Welp, now we are pretty much at the spot. The plan was to take a break on at bench so I said, ‘my foot hurts, can we take a quick stop?’. Great start to a proposal, right? After sitting for a few seconds, I started to feel the ring box, and I slowly tried to get it out my pocket without her noticing. After holding the box for a while, I finally built up the courage to drop to one knee, and since we had been talking about traveling the world together, I asked ‘will you be my partner, and travel with me forever?’...
Silence. Now I’m really thinking ‘omg she is about to say no’, and I could hear the shutter clicks of the photographer nearby so I’m thinking this is so embarrassing that the rejection will be caught on camera... After about ten seconds of pure silence, I said ‘So?’ and finally responded and said, ‘what are you saying?’.
At this point, I finally say ‘Will you marry me’, and she lit up with joy and said yes. As I finished putting the ring on her, she leaned into kiss, and hug me. That will be the best hug and kiss that I ever have, and I look forward to remembering how special it was for the rest of my life.
This session was a dream to photographer and I am now even more excited for their downtown Columbus Wedding in the fall!
